At the end of the Moving the Lives of Kids (MLK) Community Mural Project’s 2009 season, the August Wilson Center will host the organization’s second annual fundraiser, Outside the Lines. This fundraiser and celebratory event will showcase this year’s murals, raise awareness of the MLK Community Mural Project, and help the continuation of art to prosper in the City of Pittsburgh. Outside the Lines will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 with a VIP donor reception from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and general admission from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am. The event will feature a new Dance Mural performance, the unveiling of the Video Mural, a silent art auction, spoken word by Vanessa German, live musical performances by Gene Stovall and the Party Socks, DJ Hidden Gem, and Lee Robinson as well as complementary food and drink. The event is for all ages. Tickets range from $20-$100 and can be purchased at www.mlkmural.com.

The Penn Mac Building in the Strip District is looking good thanks to the MLK Community Project. We would like to thank all of the great people over there for allowing us to do this mural. It came out very well and is already getting a lot of positive feedback.
Dedication of Mt. Oliver Mural

On July 25th, 2009, a ceremony was held to dedicate the newly finished mural on Mt. Oliver. Local representatives, artists, and onlookers alike were treated to this affair. Head Honcho Kyle Holbrook, Art Director Lucas Stock, and Artist Douglas Brunner were on hand to share a couple of words on the podium. The mural looks great and is sure to make a splash with all of the locals. GREAT WORK!

We here at the MLK Community Project would like to take some time out and thank all of the great people who have been helping us out throughout this mural season. We realize it has been quite busy and strenuous for all the participants, and we appreciate you bearing with us for the time being.
